A short example presentation on molecules and molecular chemistry in LaTeX
A short example presentation on molecules and molecular chemistry in LaTeX
This example shows how a striking chemistry presentation can be created with a few simple LaTeX commands. I've used two great chemistry packages that are freely available for LaTeX: mhchem and Chemfig to create the diagrams.

Multilingual "Thank-You"
Multilingual "Thank-You"
Since my research is related to multilingual dictionaries, I have the excuse of using this TikZ drawing of multilingual "thank you's" at the end of my presentations. It had the advantage/disadvantage of distracting the audience enough from raising nit-picking, asked-just-for-sake-for-asking types of questions. :-) If compiling this takes too long, the best way to use this is probably to use the result PDF directly via e.g. \includegraphics[page=1]{multiling-tq.pdf} BTW -- can you spot the two fictional languages? :-)

LaTeX template for preparing supplementary material for submission to Optica
LaTeX template for preparing supplementary material for submission to Optica
This LaTeX template (v1.6, 10 September 2019) can be used to prepare a supplementary document for inclusion with submission to OSA’s new journal, Optica. This document, which may include supplementary information such as expanded descriptions of materials and methods, will be published as a PDF linked to the primary article. The supplemental file should only present information that would be useful and worthwhile for the reader, for example, details that would be necessary to reproduce an experiment. The article, however, must be coherent without the supplemental PDF file. Please see the Author Guidelines for Supplementary Materials for more information.Supplementary documents are not copyedited and so should be prepared carefully with the template provided. An abstract outlining the methods and materials in the supplementary document should be included here. The primary article should also be identified in the abstract: This document provides supplementary information to “Title of primary manuscript,” Optica volume, first page (year). The supplementary document should also be referred to at the end of the primary article before the references: “See Supplement 1 for supporting content.” OSA production staff will add final citation details, and so the source file must be provided. Note that this template can be run from your own TeX system or within the cloud-based Overleaf system.

A Customised CurVe CV
A Customised CurVe CV
I've been asked a few times for the code of my own CV. Truth is, it was first done many, many years ago, based on the CurVe class. As I picked up tips and tricks, I kept adding and modifying the formatting styles—but I never got round to cleaning it up properly. I wouldn't wish it on anyone to have to read or use the messy code as it was *shudder*. I got asked about it again recently, and I'm finally able to simplify the thing and put in online on Overleaf (so that other users won't get back to me with "but I don't have this package" issues either! 😉) p/s: And yes, I got my current position with Overleaf with this CV (the full version of course)!
