We’ve been nominated for the Digital Top 50 Awards and will be pitching at Tech Open Air in Berlin!

Natalie · June 6, 2018

The Digital Top 50 awards or DT50 were created by Google, McKinsey and Rocket Internet to celebrate the bold and trailblazing work of European entrepreneurs. The yearly awards assess top entrepreneurial talent from five categories: B2B and B2C Start-ups and Scale-ups as well as Tech for Social Impact Companies.

We’re excited to announce that Overleaf has been nominated for the B2C scale-up category and one of our co-founders John Hammersley will be pitching the latest on Overleaf, our collaborative writing and publishing platform, at Tech Open Air (TOA) Berlin. TOA is Europe’s leading interdisciplinary technology festival and is where the DT50 winner will be announced the same day as the pitches on 21st June. At the festival all nominees will have the opportunity to pitch to a jury. The Jury have the majority of the say, however 20% of each nominees score will be made up through a public vote so each business will need to appeal to the public voters too! If you would like to support Overleaf in the run up to the event, you can upvote our pitch video through this link, simply scroll down to the Overleaf logo and click.

The Jury will be made up of key figures in the European tech, consulting, academic, corporate, and investment communities including Karel Dörner - Senior Partner and Head of McKinsey Digital Labs Europe; Torsten Schuppe - Vice President for Google Marketing DACH & CEE; Alexander Kudlich - Group Managing Director of Rocket Internet; Harriet Green - CEO & Chairman of IBM business in Asia Pac. The Financial Times ranked Harriet No. 6 in their “HERoes ranking: Champions of Women in Business” list; Niko Woischnik - Founder of Tech Open Air; Sandra Fruendt - Director for Google Marketing in Germany; Alban Gréget - Deputy CEO of Artemis; Aquilino Peña - Founder of Kibo Ventures, Spain's leading Early-Stage Investor; Peter Zemsky - Deputy Dean of INSEAD Fontainebleau; Rainer Höll - Heads the search and selection of the most outstanding social entrepreneurs in 21 European countries through Ashoka, the world's largest network of social entrepreneurs; Roland Busch - Member of the Managing Board of Siemens. You can read more about the panel here.

It looks like the festival will be quite an event with over 20,000 tech, music, art and science enthusiasts joining to listen to industry leading speakers, network and collaborate at satellite events. We’re looking forward to both pitching as well as experiencing TOA!

About Overleaf

Overleaf was founded in 2012 by two mathematicians who built a light-weight collaboration system and used it for writing research papers. It was simple and intuitive to use—all you needed was a web browser. This intuitive online platform has since seen rapid adoption across science and research, and Overleaf’s award-winning collaboration technology is now in use by over two million researchers, students and technical writers in institutions, labs and industry worldwide.

Supported by Digital Science, and working in collaboration with international publishers and organizations, Overleaf is helping to make science and research faster, more open and more transparent by bringing the whole scientific writing process into one connected place in the cloud—from idea, to writing, to review, to publication.

Most recently, in mid-2017 Overleaf acquired its nearest competitor ShareLaTeX, and our expanded team is working to build an even stronger next-generation platform, due for launch later this year.
